'Hay Fever' by Noel Coward
Tickets are now on sale for the latest offering from local company Indulgence Theatre. 'Hay Fever' by Noel Coward is a sparkling comedy of bad manners, first performed in 1925. It follows the events of a June weekend at the country house of the bohemian Bliss family, who each have invited a guest to visit. Unfortunately for the visitors in question, the promise of an idyllic and peaceful stay is quickly dashed as they are in turn ignored, embarrassed or humiliated and ultimately abandoned by their hosts who are far more engrossed in themselves and their own family disputes.
This is the third production from Indulgence Theatre, following previous successes with 'Antony & Cleopatra' (November '03) and 'The Way of the World' (October '04). Hay Fever's co-director Liz Lucas says:
We're all having a fabulous time in rehearsals. It's such fun bringing this witty and fast-paced comedy back into the public eye once more. I think this will be a great night out for the theatre-goers of Lincoln as Coward rarely fails to please. The Bliss family will shock and horrify you but you will love them!
Regarding the 1920's setting, Liz adds:
We're lucky enough to be working again with wardrobe mistress Pauline Lancaster and set designer Jack Jones. Pauline has been carefully researching the fashions of the era and created some stunning evening gowns and Jack is working on a wonderful Art Deco style set. We've also got live music from local pianist John Pountney to put everyone in the mood. Our audiences are definitely in for a treat!
